"How do I get to Hoddevik?"

And honestly, it's a fair question.

Hoddevik sits on a remote peninsula on Norway's west coast, surrounded by mountains, ocean, and farmland. There are no highways leading directly into the bay, no train station around the corner, and no airport nearby. That's exactly what makes the place special.

The good news is that getting here is easier than many people think. With a little planning, you'll find that the journey to Hoddevik becomes part of the experience itself.

Flying to Hoddevik

The closest airports are:

Ørsta/Volda Airport (HOV)
Sandane Airport (SDN)
Ålesund Airport (AES)
Bergen Airport (BGO)

If you're traveling from elsewhere in Norway or from abroad, we usually recommend flying into Ørsta/Volda or Sandane if possible, as these are the closest airports to Hoddevik.

From the airports, you can either rent a car or arrange a taxi.

Renting a car

We highly recommend renting a car if you can. Not only does it make the journey to Hoddevik straightforward, but it also gives you the freedom to explore the surrounding coastline, mountains, and villages during your stay.

Bergen Airport: 6–7 hours

The drive itself is beautiful, taking you through fjords, mountain passes, coastal roads, and small Norwegian communities. If you're arriving through Sandane or Volda, it's worth noting that rental cars can be limited due to the airport's small size. We recommend checking availability before booking your flights.

Traveling by Ferry

If you're coming from Bergen, taking the ferry can be a fantastic option.

Norled operates express boats along the coast, including routes between Bergen and Selje. The trip offers incredible views of Norway's coastline and often feels more like a sightseeing tour than public transport. Once you arrive in Selje, Hoddevik is about 40 minutes away by car or taxi.

For many guests traveling from Bergen, the ferry is both more scenic and more enjoyable than spending the day on a bus.

Traveling by Bus

Norway's long-distance bus network reaches surprisingly far along the coast.

You can travel with Vy from cities such as:

Ålesund

The nearest bus stop to Hoddevik is Bryggja, located approximately one hour away by car.

From Bryggja, you'll need to arrange a taxi for the final stretch to Hoddevik.

While the bus takes longer than flying, it can be a comfortable and affordable option, especially if you're already traveling around Norway.
